If you don't get the emails you mail be interested to know that there are still places available on the Lesbians Exploring Faith Together weekend on 17th-19th February 2012 at Holland House in Worcestershire.

The weekend doesn't have a facilitator this time but will have the format of a number of workshops led by members and co-ordinated by the LEFT Collective.

The theme is connected to peace, harmony and justice and the choice of workshops will provide opportuntites to relate ideas about peace, harmony and justice to ways of creating it for ourselves as individuals, within the LEFT community and beyond.

Different workshops will have times to listen, talk, reflect, share stories, laugh, take part in creative expression, express points of view, and think about issues.

There will also be time to meet friends old and new, and spend time in the positive, supportive and affirming company of other lesbian/bi women in a comfortable and welcoming house with beautiful gardens in a Worcester Village.

If you are interested in going but havn't yet booked then now is a great time to do so! It will help us with our organisation if bookings can be made as soon as possible.

Just in case you haven't seen this elsewhere there are still spaces:

The day will start with a 'Bring your own lunch '

Clare Herbert will speak for about half an hour on themes of inclusivity in churches and worshipping communities (more news on the specific content to come)

There will then be time in small group dicussions to relate this to our own experiences, followed by some facilitated feedback from Clare.

We will finish with some spiritual reflection/time of worship. There will also be tea/coffee and cake provided at some point in the afternoon.

The Lesbians Exploring Faith Together (LEFT) group are now taking bookings for our weekend away on Friday 8th- Sunday 10th April 2011 at Holland House in Cropthorne, Pershore, Worcestershire http://www.hollandhouse.org/index.html

The weekend is a great opportunity to meet with other lesbian or bi-sexual women in a safe space to explore aspects of our spiritual lives, relax, have fun, and meet old and new friends in a supportive environment.

Arrivals are from 5 p.m. on Friday evening with time to have a look around, find your room, have a cuppa and chat with others. Dinner at 7 p.m.

After dinner there is an introductory session to meet the other guests and this will be led by the LEFT planning group.

Saturday will have two morning workshops, free time in the afternoon with the option of a walk, and an early evening session before dinner. These will be led by Sharon Ferguson who is chief executive of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement, a Minister of a Metropolitian community Church congregation in London, and an excellent facilitator.

There will be opportuntites to listen to some input, and have thinking time, time to discuss, create and respond thoroughout the weekend.

The theme is likely to be around 'new beginnings' and this should be confirmed very soon.

There will be a party in the evening and we invite those who would like to join in the entertainment to play a musical instrument, sing a song, read a poem, tell a joke, do a magic trick. take part in a sketch - or whatever.

On Sunday there will be a session to plan a liturgy together and this will be co-ordinated by the LEFT planning group.

The venue - Holland House is in Cropthorne near Pershore Worcestershire (trains to Evesham) and is a tudor style house with lovely gardens and is a very welcoming and relaxing place to be. You can choose a single or twin room and all of our meals and refreshments are included in the weekend and can be highly recommended.

The cost for the whole weekend including all meals and two nights accommodation is £145.

To assist us in planning the weekend we ask that payment is included with the booking form (cheques payable to 'LEFT') which needs to be in by 11th March at the latest.

The next 'Lesbians Exploring Faith Together' Event will be a workshop day in Birmingham led by non other then eminent theologian Professor Lisa Isherwood. See her profile at http://www.winchester.ac.uk/?page=7607.

The meeting will be at Carrs Lane Church Centre, Carrs Lane, Birmingham B4 7SX on Saturday 21st November 2009 from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Places will be limited so booking is recommended. E-mail Sam to reserve a place.

The day will start with lunch, and there will be an opportunity to go out for drinks/meal in the evening afterwards.

The programmme for the day is likely to be around the topic of body theology, and be workshop based, no previous experience of theological study is required.

I heard a talk she gave at Carrs Lane a few months ago, and she was able to talk about complex ideas, yet be easy to listen to, thought provoking and entertaining.

Exploring the Divine Feminine
The 2009 LEFT weekend will be an exploration of the divine feminine in world traditions and within ourselves led by Lucy Wintle and Estelle Williams. It will be interactive throughout and will seek to develop our understanding of God as a feminine identity and the divine within all creation. The weekend will include: presentation, discussion, group work, meditation, prayer, nature walk and the creative arts.

Revd Estelle Williams
Estelle is an ordained Interfaith Minister and qualified Life Coach. She is particularly interested in working in the areas of enhancing self esteem, change management, thought catching, gratitude, forgiveness and relationship dynamics. Estelle has extensive experience of working with both adults and young people; helping them identify what they really want in life, clarifying their options and keeping them on track.
Revd Lucy Wintle
Lucy is an ordained Interfaith Minister with a great deal of experiences in conducting services and ceremonies in many different places of worship. As a liturgical deacon in an inclusive church and a regular church goer, she has a close affinity to the Church of England, but believes there are many paths to God.
Lucy and Estelle are co founders of the company Rainbow Heart Services which offers exclusive services such as ceremonies and Spiritual counselling to the lesbian and gay community.

The cost of the weekend is: £150 for non-members of LEFT and £145 for members of LEFT. There are a limited number of subsidised places for non-waged women including those on state pensions. The subsidised places are £100. (Subsidised places are funded directly from LEFT funds).

Women are invited to arrive at Holland House from 4pm onwards on Friday 20th March. The first session will be after dinner at approximately 8pm. Departures after lunch on Sunday 22nd March.

Directions and a programme will be sent out with confirmation of booking.

Doing December Differently

Rosie and Nicola are going to run a workshop-based afternoon session for us at Carrs Lane Church based on their book.

"Doing December Differently" will be a creative afternoon workshop based on some of the ideas and themes from the book of the same name, published to considerable acclaim by Wild Goose in 2006, and edited by Nicola Slee and Rosie Miles. How might we prepare for and experience the seasons of Advent and Christmas in ways that nourish and nurture, heal rather than harm, and which resist the rampant consumerism of our spend! spend! spend! society? People of Christian and other faiths and none want to 'do December differently' so come along and try out some ideas yourselves, before December kicks in!

The Amazon UK synopsis: "Explains how people of faith and goodwill might mark the midwinter season with integrity and simplicity. This work includes historical, theological, liturgical and sociological reflections and resources that can be adapted to various settings."

Coming Out Prayer

O God of truth and justice, the evasions and deceits we practice upon others and ourselves are many.

We long only to speak out and to hear the truth, yet time and again, from fear of loss or hope of gain, from dull habit or from cruel deliberation, we speak half-truths, we twist facts, we are silent when others lie, and we lie to ourselves.

Whether we are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning, family or friends, we sometimes feel forced to pretend to be that which we are not, to present ourselves in ways which are not truthful, and sometimes with outright lies.

But as we stand before You, our words and our thoughts speed to One who knows them before we utter them. We do not have to tell untruths to You as we are often forced to do in the world. We know we cannot lie in your presence.

May our worship help us to practice truth in speech and in thought before You, to ourselves, and before one another; and may we finally complete our liberation so that we no longer feel the need to practice evasions and deceits.

A space for those who identify both as christian and as lesbian to meet with like-minded individuals to explore how their faith is relevant to them.
A knowledge-base of relevant books, films, events and web-sites.
Opportunities for us to spend time together in a variety of ways, perhaps: study days, days out, meeting to attend events, meeting to host events, parties.
A regular newsletter to keep members updated.

We can only do this on a larger scale with your support: ideas, volunteers, and of course money, and so we are looking for both donations and new members.

We believe this is a cause that many of you would want to support and look forward to hearing from you, hearing your ideas about how we move forward and how you are able to help this process.

MISSION STATEMENT FOR LEFT

(Lesbians exploring faith together)

LEFT exists first and foremost to enable lesbian and bisexual women, who know themselves to be spiritual, to grow and flourish as whole human beings. The group has its origins in the Christian tradition and thus is likely that its events and activities will have most appeal to women who have some kind of Christian background. At the same time, LEFT is keen to learn from the journeys of lesbian and bisexual women of other religious traditions and spiritual paths.

LEFT believes that there is nothing incompatible in being gay and being a Christian. The group is aware that traditional theologies have often been limiting and indeed damaging to gay people and thus we are committed to re-thinking theology from our own experience. We join with all others who care, regardless of sexual orientation, in the challenging of homophobia in the churches.
